Process Leica Job

Connecting a raw instrument file to Studio Survey

SIM - Process Leica Job

To access this dialog:

  • Using the Home ribbon, click Survey Import | Import Survey. Select Leica | Process Job.

The Survey Import Module (SIM) is used to import and manage survey station data and connect to survey equipment data. The Process Survey Data panel is used to select a raw instrument file in DBX, GSI or FLD format and add it to the Studio Survey database.

The processing method used is to convert a raw instrument file into a Datamine file. This file can then be reviewed and modified before the final stage of processing. This gives several advantages, including better quality assurance as the raw file does not need to be modified, and the Datamine format is easy to interpret, giving the surveyor processing the file a good understanding of what was recorded in the field. Datamine binary files are then fed into Studio Survey's EOM reporting tools, allowing reports to be published.

Fill out the parameters you need (see below) and click OK to import the equipment data into Studio Survey.

Field Details

Input Format: select the input format to be processed. This can be the Leica DBX format, Leica GSI format, or the MSO FLD format (which could be useful if reprocessing a modified job).

DBX Type: when processing Leica DBX data you must specify whether it is TPS (Total Station Positioning System) or GSI (Global Positioning System) format.

GPS Height: when processing GSI data you must also specify the height method used, either Orthometric or Ellipsiodal.

Method: select the method by which data is generated based on the raw survey data:

  • Polar Cartesian: use a combination of both observations and coordinates to calculate results.

  • Polar: use observed angles and distances and ignore all coordinate values used on the TPS. Note that this approach may result in small differences between solutions.

  • Cartesian: use only TPS calculated coordinates and ignore all other measurements.

Surveyor: select the Surveyor name from the available list. Note that the surveyor details are configured by editing the contents of the Studio Survey database.

Mine Area: select the mine area from the available list. Note that the the mine area details are configured by editing the contents of the Studio Survey database.

Job Filename: use the browser button to select the job filename (.xcf format) to process.
